FL: Ban on sex offender appeal jail release passes Florida House

[news-journalonline.com – 3/3/20]

A bill that would bar judges from granting bail to someone appealing a conviction of a sex offense against a child is moving smoothly through the Florida Legislature.

Rep. Tom Leek, R-Ormond Beach, introduced the bill after outrage last year led by Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood and others when Mark Fugler was released while he appealed his conviction and 15-year prison sentence for sex crimes involving a child.

Leek’s bill adds sex crimes against children to the list of offenses for which judges cannot grant supersedeas bonds, a bond allowing someone to remain free while appealing a conviction.

Another feel good Bill as usual.

So if you go to the article you will see pictures of registrants (I would assume to frighten the public).

The registrants are being shown due to the fact that they failed to report certain changes in their registration which really has nothing to do with the article. I guess the pictures add a bit of “glitz” to the article. “Look at them scary guys”

Wow…so there’s only ONE lawmaker in that state who has a brain. I applaud Senator Thurston for his courage and common sense. I bet Senator Thurston won’t be getting any Christmas gifts from Lauren Book or her alleged drunk driving daddy anytime soon.

The courts have become akin to the last stand at “The Alamo”. All of the outside agencies are putting the squeeze on the judges to keep stripping away their power. The judges and the public defenders are fighting a battle that’s getting harder to fight and with little to no hope of getting recognition for their efforts while the other agencies are getting all the media and public support.

So now’s the time to fight. They need cases to help prove the other side of the coin that the public isn’t seeing otherwise the social engineering will continue. It’s best not to leave whatever state you’e in if you can help it, try to stay within your original jurisdiction and try to work with the court. The judges aren’t blind, you just have to move an inch so that they can move an inch. The greater the effort on your part, the greater the effort on theirs.

For as bad as things are now you’re not going to like it when it gets worse so do your part and be the present minority rather than the absent opposition.
